Create your own recalbox

If you are here, you are in the process to create your own multi-emulation platform for you hdmi tv or even to create an arcade cabinet with an embedded system!

You're on the right page !

Follow the guide and create your recalbox in 3 steps.

3 Steps

STEP 1. Get the hardware.

You will need the following in order to create your recalbox :
  • A Raspberry Pi 2 (or a Raspberry Pi 1 B or B+)
  • A microSD card >= 16GB
  • A good quality micro USB power supply > 1.5AMP
  • A HDMI Cable
  • A PS3 Sixaxis, Dualshock 3, or Shanwan Copy, or a USB controller
  • A good quality Bluetooth Dongle
  • A Raspberry Pi Case
  • An USB keyboard if you dont have a OOTB controller.

Once you have all those components, you can begin the installation of recalboxOS on your micro SD card.

STEP 2. Install recalboxOS.

It's time to download and install recalboxOS !

Go to https://github.com/digitalLumberjack/recalbox-os/releases to download the last version of recalboxOS. You can install the recalboxOS on a fat32 formatted sd card. Use a card formater software from https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ on Windows and MacOSX, or gparted on linux.

Now unzip the recalboxOS.zip file, and copy all unzipped files to your sd.

Insert the micro SD into your RPi, plug the HDMI, keyboard, and power cable. Your raspberry Pi boots and the installer start to copy files.

You now have a recalbox !

STEP 3. Configure your recalbox.

You may want to configure your controller for your new recalbox !

If you have a PS3 controller and the bluetooth dongle, just take a micro usb cable, plug the controller on the recalbox and wait 10 seconds. You can now unplug the controller and press HOME button. You controller is configured !

If you have a XBox360 usb controller, just plug it and play !

If you have an USB controller, plug your USB keyboard, press ENTER in the frontend, select the "Configure Input" entry with S key, then select "Configure a controller" with S key. Follow the instructions and map each controller button to the corresponding button on the screen. Buttons are named after Super Nintendo controller.
