On our Twitch channel, Fab2Ris had the pleasure of welcoming special guests twice from Third Editions, the French reference for video game books. Two shows, two books, two fascinating deep dives into video game history: one dedicated to the Japanese giant Square Enix, the other to the absolute icon Lara Croft. If you missed these live sessions, don’t worry — here’s a quick recap, along with an invitation to (re)discover them right now!
For our first show, Fab2Ris welcomed Oscar Lemaire, author at Third Editions, to talk about his book dedicated to the history of Square Enix. From Square’s near-bankruptcy in the late 1980s to the rise of one of the most influential studios in the industry, the book passionately and thoroughly retraces decades of Japanese creativity. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts… legendary franchises that have shaped generations of players, all explored here from their origins to the present day. A must-have for any RPG fan and enthusiast of Japanese gaming culture.

For our second show, Thomas Méreur, also from Third Editions, joined us to discuss his book dedicated to the Tomb Raider series. From the creation of Lara Croft by Core Design in 1996 to the modern reboots by Crystal Dynamics, the book explores thirty years of adventures, graphical evolution, controversies, and reinvention. A saga that has not only shaped video game history but also left a lasting mark on pop culture as a whole. Thomas shared an expert perspective that was both nostalgic and analytical, in a discussion that fans of the iconic tomb raider won’t want to miss.

Both books are available directly on the Third Editions website. Whether you’re a fan of Japanese RPGs or hooked on Lara Croft’s adventures, these books are a great way to extend your passion for video games beyond the screen — and they’ll look great on any gamer’s bookshelf.
