To celebrate Metal Slug's 30th anniversary, SNK and Pix'n Love Games have unveiled their big announcement: a board game. The reveal came as a surprise to many fans, who were expecting something entirely different.
At the beginning of July, Pix'n Love Games published a deliberately cryptic message, teasing an "explosive" announcement and inviting fans to get ready to head back into battle alongside Marco, Tarma, Fio, and Eri. With no further hints provided, the community's imagination quickly ran wild, with many hoping for a collection of the series' classic titles on modern platforms.
That wasn't the case. The announcement turned out to be the very first Metal Slug board game, developed by Pix'n Love Games in partnership with SNK. The project will be funded through Gamefound, where a pre-launch page is already available, although no campaign launch date has been announced yet.
The details shared so far remain fairly limited. The game will support 1 to 4 players, with sessions expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes. No gameplay footage, box contents, or pricing information has been revealed at this stage.

Across social media, many players expressed their frustration, criticizing Pix'n Love Games for building up expectations around what they ultimately considered an underwhelming announcement for the franchise's 30th anniversary. Many had been hoping for a playable game collection rather than a licensed board game.
This isn't the first time recent Metal Slug announcements have received a mixed reception. Metal Slug Rush, the mobile game inspired by Vampire Survivors, also faced heavy criticism following its reveal. It's also worth remembering that SNK announced a reboot of the franchise in April 2026, a project that continues to divide fans.
